Indonesian Election Commission / Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) strictly prohibits local television stations to broadcast quick count result and the exit poll during the vote is still in progress. Because, broadcasting of quick count results made by different survey institutions assessed can psychologically affect on voters's concentration.
Member of KPU I Gusti Putu Artha in KPU head office said, "We asks television stations to stop, and Indonesian Broadcasting Commission can reprimand them. Quick count, exit poll, or any name can not be displayed first. It could be dangerous," said Putu, Wednesday (8 / 7).
According to Putu, KPU find there are three television stations broadcasting exit poll conducted by LP3ES, ie, Metro TV, TV One, and RCTI. He just knows that after witnessing the media coverage on television this morning and immediately ask Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to reprimand all of those television stations.
He added, KPU respect freedom of the press, but we don't want freedom of the press to harm the ongoing democratic process. "I'v been monitoring via television and directly call the editorial staff leaders of Metro TV, TV One, and RCTI in order to stop it," he said.
In fact, there is unwritten agreement between the KPU and survey institutions states that during the poll is still running there are no allowed broadcast of a public perception survey.
In addition, according to Constitutional Court decisions (MK), broadcasting exit poll and quick count only allowed if the process of vote has been completed. "The quick count results can only shown after all voting is completed or at 13.00 WIB," he said.
