Department of Transportation / Departemen Perhubungan (abr: Dephub) revokes the approved capability of Merpati Maintenance Facility Strategic Bussiness Unit(MMF SBU) following a serious incident of Boeing 737-400 PK-MDO at Frans Kaisepo Airport in Biak, Papua, 6 July 2009.
Head of public communication center Dephub Bambang S. Ervan said the cancellation set through a letter from the Directorate General of Air Transportation to leaders of Merpati Nusantara Airlines No. AU/4604/DKUPPU/2725/2009 dated 7 July 2009.
"We also freeze the validity of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (AMEL) on the three SBU MMF qualified personnel," he said in a press release today. That policies, according to him, as prevention steps related to the serious incident of Boeing 737-400 PK-MDO that occurred on 6 July.
Revocation is devoted to the ability (approved capability) of MMF as the holder of Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) 145/9300, in the field of accessories for the inspection job, testing and repair for the brake and wheel of their Boeing 737-200/300/400/500 aircrafts.
"Until internal self assessment and internal evaluation which done by Merpati Nusantara received by Director General of Air Transportation," he said.
Specifically for the AMEL freezing pointed to AMEL No.3825 in the name of Nanang Budi Erwanto, AMEL No.3451 in the name of Sumitro puasa and AMEL No.3671 in the name of M. Adi Kusno Nurcahyo. "Until the internal self assessment and internal evaluation received by the Directorate General of Air Transportation."
Merpati is required to perform internal self assessment and internal evaluation of the overall system and procedures in order to find the root of the problems of the incident.
Furthermore, Bambang said, Directorate General of Air Transportation will conduct checks after receiving reports of internal self assessment and internal evaluation conducted by the Merpati before considering re-publishing AMO SBU MMF and AMEL of those personnels.
